Overview
GoFar is a travel companion app for Nepal's Sudurpashchim (Far-Western) Province — helping you discover destinations, plan trips, and navigate the region. This policy covers the GoFar Android app (package com.gofar.app) and describes what data we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the controls you have.
We built GoFar to work well with as little personal data as possible: you can browse every destination as a guest before ever creating an account.
Information we collect
Account information
If you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and profile photo — supplied either directly (email sign-up) or from your Google account (Google Sign-In). You can also continue as a guest without providing any of this.
Trip & activity data
Trips, stops, and destinations you save or favorite are stored against your account so they sync across sign-ins.
Location data
Only if you grant location permission: your device's approximate or precise location is used to center the map and surface nearby destinations. GoFar does not collect location in the background, and you can revoke this permission at any time.
Photos you upload
If you add a photo to a destination page, we store the image file and its metadata. See Photos you share below — this content is public.
Usage & diagnostic data
We collect basic app-usage analytics and crash reports (via Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics) to find and fix problems and understand which features are useful.
Push notification token
If notifications are enabled, your device is assigned a messaging token (via Firebase Cloud Messaging) used to deliver notifications to that device.
How we use it
Photos you share
GoFar lets signed-in users add photos to a destination page so other travelers can see it. Before you upload:
Photos you add are public. Any photo you upload to a destination is visible to every GoFar user who views that destination, alongside the display name on your account.
Only upload photos you're comfortable sharing publicly, and that you have the right to share. Don't include other identifiable people without their consent, and don't upload anything sensitive.
Uploaded photos are stored in our cloud storage and linked to the destination and to your account. There is currently no in-app option to remove a photo you've uploaded — contact us (see Contact us) and we'll remove it for you.
Third-party services
GoFar is built on the following services, each operated by Google. We share the minimum data each needs to do its job — we do not sell or otherwise share your data with anyone else.
Storage & security
Your account and trip data are stored on Google Cloud infrastructure via Firebase, encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest under Google's standard security practices.
A copy of destination data is also cached locally on your device, so you can keep browsing saved places and destination details without a connection. This local cache is not encrypted separately from your device's own storage protections.
Data retention
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account (see below), your profile, trips, and saved places are permanently deleted from our systems. Photos you've uploaded to destinations may remain (see Photos you share) since they're shared content tied to the destination rather than solely to your account; contact us to have a specific photo removed.
Aggregated, de-identified analytics and crash data are retained by Firebase per Google's own retention schedules and are not directly tied back to you once de-identified.
Your rights & choices
Account deletion
You can permanently delete your GoFar account, in-app, at any time from Profile → Privacy & Security → Delete My Account. This immediately and permanently removes your account, profile, saved places, and trips. This action cannot be undone.
You don't need an active account to request deletion — if you'd rather not use the in-app flow, contact us (see Contact us) with the email address on your account and we'll process the deletion manually.
Children's privacy
GoFar is a general-audience travel app intended for tourists and travelers, and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
International users
GoFar is built for travelers visiting Nepal's Sudurpashchim Province, and our backend infrastructure (Firebase / Google Cloud) may process and store data outside of your home country, including in Nepal and other countries where Google operates data centers. By using GoFar, you consent to this transfer and processing.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as GoFar's features change. We'll update the "Effective" date at the top of this page when we do. Material changes will also be reflected in the in-app Privacy & Security section. Continued use of GoFar after a change means you accept the updated policy.
